All the month of May is “National Physical Fitness and Sports Month”.  This is to encourages individuals and organizations to promote fitness activities and programs.  Popularly known as “May Month,” National Physical Fitness and Sports Month was established by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports in 1983.

There is a display of books and DVDs dealing with health and exercise on the table near the public access computers and the library rotunda.    Some of these will probably interest you. 

There two databases available to Alameda County Library users which specialize in sports and sports medicine.   They are: 

Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Collection – This predominantly full-text collection includes over 60 titles in the fields of physical therapy and sports medicine. Topics include proven treatment techniques, experimental research theses, and many more. Coverage begins in 1980.

Sports Illustrated – Search, review, and read more than 54 years of Sports Illustrated content including full text stories, images (including covers), video, and more. Search by keyword then refine a search by date and/or date range. You can also click to refine by type of content (articles, photos, galleries, video, and covers). Finally, you can also refine results to material from Sports Illustrated (the magazine), SI.com (the web site) and/or both publications. It’s also possible to sort results by date or relevance.
