Ok, everybody help me compile a list of free things to do at Dublin Library this summer. What can you think of? Here’s my start to the list:
1.0 Play a summer reading game. No one is left out! Kids are signing up for BE CREATIVE, teens for EXPRESS YOUSELF, adults are reading BOOKS AROUND THE BAY. T
here’s prizes in it for everyone!
2. Attend a free program! They are too numerous to mention, but last week kids made puppets, adults learned about mindfulness. Teens, we just got a wii and are looking forward to having gaming twice a month. This week Swazzle Puppets on Wednesday!
3. Read.
4. Check
out your favorite movie or start a new TV series. The Friends of the Library have been enjoying the Midsomer Murders. I’ve been getting caught up with How I met Your Mother.
5. Speaking of the Friends….join! The Friends always could use more helping hands sorting books and the Fall booksale will arrive before you know it. For more info just call me at 803-7266.
6. Get wired in…the Library has free wireless with your library card. Bring your laptop and spend as long as you want crusing the web over a high speed network.
7. Listen to a good book! Netlibrary now offers eAudiobooks many of which are compatible with i-pod. The collection includes both fiction and nonfiction for adults, teen, and children, including bestsellers, book club favorites, timeless classics and award winning literature.
8. Talk to us! There are conversations going on all over our website. Be sure and check out our summer reading blogs for all ages: kids @ http://summereadingame.wordpress.com/ ; teens tell us your favorites at http://teensread.wordpress.com/ and adults can share Books Around the Bay at http://summerreading4adults.wordpress.com/.
9. Attend a free concert: the Banana Slug String Band an eco-friendly music group from Santa Cruz will be at the Dublin Library on Saturday, July 25th for a free outdoor concert.
10. Get a pass for free visit to a Museum. The Library offers a family pass to the Asian Art Museum and the Bay Area Discovery Museum. You can check the pass out with your library card.
11. Start a book discussion group. The Library offers book discussion kits. Search in the catalog under “Book Group Kit” for a list. Each kit has 10 copies of the book plus a discussion guide.
12. Join a book discussion group! The library has two adult discussion groups; one meets the first Tuesday evening of the month; the second one meets the third Thursday at 12:30p.m. For information email librarian Peggy Tollefson at ptollefson@aclibrary.org.
13. Brush up on your computer skills. This summer we have teen volunteers here nearly everyday to help adults learn how to use the internet, email, word processing and other computer basics. Check the library’s calendar for details.
14. Tell a story: every Tuesday evening in July we offer Family Story Night. If you have a yen to share a favorite story with us, contact Peggy Tollefson at ptollefson@aclibrary.org and join our cadre of volunteer storytellers.
15. Learn about Dublin history. Dublin Library and the Heritage Museum recently collaborated to bring Dublin’s historical photographs to the web. Link to Calisphere at http://www.calisphere.universityofcalifornia.edu/ and have a look at some of the famous Dublin photographs.
